The true power lies in the hands of the Guilds. Many Guilds have aspired to reach the level of grandeur once held by the Liandris Corporation and as of yet, none have achieved it. However, there are some Guilds that would seek to change of this. The greatest individuals of the galaxy have come together to form alliances of the scale not seen since the last galactic war. This fresh wave of Guild superpowers has come to dominate the new era of Terran civilization. Naturally, these Guilds make and break treaties between each other in a constant bid for galactic hegemony. The influence of these political juggernauts is such that their policies and actions shape the happenings of the entire galaxy, affecting even the most remote corners of Terran civilization.
