3700 AD - A space online game
 | Capable of fielding small, well-financed fleets of warships, the guilds hired mercenaries to fight their war for them. Trade and business begin to slow down as the turmoil of war spreads throughout Terran space. The opposing sides in the conflict were careful not to provoke Terra's military wrath and waged their campaigns in distant territories to avoid unintentionally bringing the Terran government into the war on either side. During a major battle in the outer limits of Terran space, a startling discovery was made. A previously unknown race appeared and made contact with the embattled fleets. Shortly after the arrival of the alien visitors, all communication with either of the opposing fleets was lost. Scouts were sent to investigate the strange loss of communication, only to report back that the area was littered with floating wreckage and charred debris. The appearance of these unknown visitors and the devastation left in the wake of their passing gave rise to many concerns among the leaders of Terra. Many were left uncertain about future alien contact. One thing was certain though. Even with the destruction of the main fleets of both sides in the war, the fighting was far from over. The Liandris Corporation became divided on key issues about the war, the visitors, and the future of the guild. Infighting began to tear Liandris apart as the group split into two main camps, each with their own agenda. Struggles over the possession of the means to extract Terran Metal minerals served to further widen the rift between the two groups. Meanwhile, the alliance of guilds also began to sink into decline. The loss of their combined fleets was financially devastating. Guild leaders began to point fingers and place blame upon other. Tensions reached a point where guilds began to cut their losses and leave the alliance. At first it was only an individual guild here or there, but soon groups of guilds began to leave and form their own smaller alliances. Warring between the factions was especially intensified by the discovery of new and precious commodities. |
 | | Adventurers began to discover new space routes, extending the reach of Terran civilization in all directions. With the discovery of new crystal resources on distant and previously unvisited planets, a surge of settlers flocked to the regions. The settlers were mostly prospective Terran miners and merchants who were eager to stake out their claim in the emerging market for space crystals. The war over the new regions escalated further as the alien visitors made continued appearances, waylaying Terran vessels and then suddenly disappearing again. Ignorant of the alien involvement, the factions blamed each other for the loss of their ships and resources. The factions' military presences in the conflict areas were nearly tripled and many non-combatants lost their lives while caught in the crossfire of the opposing sides. Despite the risks, ambitious space farers continue to pour into the conflict zone. These newcomers were anxious to make a name for themselves in the new and lucrative crystal industry, even if they had to risk their own lives to do it. | . |
